Tools that can be sharpened, tightened or re-handled instead of binned. Forged heads, not cast. Hardened blades that keep an edge. Hickory and hornbeam handles that stand up to a mallet. Screws that advance under load. Nothing here is throwaway, and nothing here is a collector's piece either.

Edges and first setup

Chisels and plane irons arrive factory-ground, not honed. That's expected, not a defect: the final edge depends on your work, and a shop-honed bevel is sharper than anything that survives a shipping box. Every listing tells you if a tool needs honing before its first cut.
